Galenus apartments is situated right next to the Zuidpark in Antwerp. On the ground floor, the expansion of the adjacent pharmacy is planned. On the floors above, four apartments are provided, including one duplex apartment.
The building is characterised by a generous ground floor that matches the scale of the townhouses in the neighbourhood. The transparency of the ground floor is continued at the upper levels. Since it is not possible to provide terraces, the decision was made to give the apartments a full-width window that is also foldable. The window can be folded open entirely – without an intermediate post.
In addition, a translucent sun screen is provided for all apartments. This skin in expanded metal runs across all four floor levels. The fixed section also functions as a fall protection; the sliding section opens – like the windows – across the full width.
