META architectuurbureau submitted, together with LandInzicht Landschapsarchitecten, its competition design to the huisvestigingsmaatschappij Dijledal for the project Sociale woningen Lolanden fase 2 in Leuven.
The design has 102 counsel housing apartments divided over 3 blocks. It also provides a concept for landscape design around the blocks.
Openings in the volumes facilitate interaction between the square, the connecting road and the green areas beyond. Accents in the volumes help fit in the existing tissue and create an obvious hierarchy of the public green.
In the design special attention was paid to raising the recognizability and readibility of the area. The facade splays an important role here. The addition of an extra element to the garden side – the balcony – creates a subtle difference between on the one hand the street- en square walls with an urban character and on the other hand the walls oriented on the common green outer space.
